Otis Maynard

Otis Maynard is currently an Associate General Counsel for United Health Group providing legal support to Benefit Operations in the Employer and Individual business segment. He has held that position since joining the company in September 2011.

Prior to joining United Health Group Mr. Maynard served as the General Counsel for Charter Oak Health Center, Inc., a community health center located in Hartford, CT. In that role he was responsible for managing the health center's legal affairs and compliance with state, federal and Joint Commission regulations pertaining to provision of primary health care including medical, dental, behavioral and related health services.

Before his tenure at Charter Oak, Mr. Maynard was employed by The Hartford Financial Services Group for a period of 10 years in a variety of increasingly complex roles from litigation management in the Individual Life and Property/Casualty businesses to Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for the Individual Life division. Mr. Maynard commenced his legal career in 1993 as a trial and appellate lawyer at the Philadelphia law firm of German, Gallagher & Murtagh where his practice included extensive litigation in corporate law, commercial liability and insurance defense matters.

Mr. Maynard received his Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from Loma Linda University in 1984 and was thereafter employed as a pharmaceutical research and development chemist at Kendall McGaw and Baxter Healthcare before attending law school. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Temple University Law School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1993 and is currently licensed to practice in both Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.

Mr. Maynard serves on the Community Relations Committee for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, CT and is an active mentor with the Law School Mentoring Program sponsored by the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD).
