PAF Releases the 2021 Annual Impact Report

Patient Advocate Foundation Releases the 2021 Annual Impact Report

… All Patients Deserve An Advocate

Hampton, VA (May 25, 2022) – Patient Advocate Foundation (PAF), a national non-profit organization which provides case management services and financial aid to patients with chronic, life-threatening, and debilitating illness, is pleased to announce the release of its 2021 Annual Impact Report (AIR), All Patients Deserve An Advocate.
The report focuses on the impact that PAF interventions have on the lives of patients and their families, many of whom face catastrophic health expenditures that compromise their ability to access care or to provide for basic household needs. It features extensive calendar year data, a comprehensive COVID-19 section with longitudinal survey results, highlights from the case management, financial services, health equity, education and research initiatives and interactive opportunities to view patient videos and link directly to select resources, trainings and more. The Annual Impact Report also acknowledges our generous supporters and provides financial statements for PAF’s most recent fiscal year of 2020/21.

At PAF, we have always believed that together we can and must address social and financial barriers that cause or exacerbate inequities in health outcomes. It is with that commitment in mind that we provided direct assistance in 2021 to more than 153,000 patients from all 50 states representing 748 distinct diagnoses through 47 patient support programs.

“As we continue to navigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the recognition that many patients need an advocate to have an equitable chance at attaining quality healthcare, I find the release of this Annual Impact Report particularly critical. Our responsive approach to the delivery of direct help and safety net services to patients has never been more evident or more needed,” PAF CEO Alan Balch, PhD said.

PAF was founded in 1996 by Nancy Davenport-Ennis, and co-founded by John H. Ennis, to help address the issues faced by patients like their friend Cheryl Grimmel, who had to battle not only her breast cancer but for access to prescribed care and affordable treatments. In PAF’s first year, Nancy and a part-time volunteer staff of two provided case management assistance to 157 patients. Fast forward to year end 2021 and the organization has helped more than 1.7 million patients nationwide.
