Hampton, VA (April 22, 2025) – Patient Advocate Foundation (PAF), the nation’s leading authority in complex healthcare navigation, which provides case management services and financial aid to patients with chronic, life-threatening, and debilitating illnesses, is pleased to announce the release of its 2024 Annual Impact Report (AIR), Diagnosis & Beyond We Guide The Journey.
The report highlights the current landscape of patient experience in today’s healthcare system and underscores the wide range of PAF interventions needed to effectively support the patients and families they serve—many of whom face social or financial hardships caused by difficulties in accessing and affording healthcare and essential household needs.
Extensive PAF patient data from the calendar year is presented throughout the AIR, with survey and evaluation results illuminating the healthcare access and affordability challenges patients face, while reflecting their diverse experiences and perspectives. Readers can explore key highlights from PAF’s case management services, financial support programs, community engagement efforts, research and evaluation activities, and patient education initiatives. Interactive features also offer opportunities to meet patients assisted by PAF, students supported through PAF scholarship awards, and esteemed leaders from several of PAF’s nonprofit program partners.
The Annual Impact Report recognizes the generous supporters and financial partners who make the organization’s work possible. PAF is deeply grateful for their commitment and collaboration. Financial statements for the 2023/24 fiscal year are also included in the report.
PAF understands that people facing chronic and life-threatening illnesses are often forced to make impossible choices—between paying for necessary medical care and paying expenses necessary for life. Many spend exhausting hours navigating a complex and fragmented healthcare and safety net system alone. This reality has informed PAF’s mission for nearly 30 years and continues to drive our unwavering commitment to ensuring all patients have access to equitable healthcare.
In 2024, PAF reached more than 3.1 million people through direct services, education, and outreach. We distributed over $335 million in financial support and provided direct, sustained assistance to more than 193,000 patients—representing 804 distinct diagnoses, from all 50 states, and 91% of all U.S. counties.

Patient Advocate Foundation was founded in 1996 by Nancy Davenport-Ennis and co-founded by John H. (Jack) Ennis to help address the issues faced by patients like their friend Cheryl Grimmel, who had to battle not only her breast cancer but also for access to affordable treatments.
